Prince is close to his track weight of 60 lbs. This makes him a bit on the small size for male standard size greyhounds. He has a handsome face, and soft golden eyes. He is 5 years old now and in wonderful health. He is a bit shy but adjusting well in his new foster home. We have no fenced yard, so we take him for short walks along with our adopted greyhound, Rex, who is 11 years old. They are both a reddish fawn color and from a distance they look like two deer on leashes.
Prince is wonderful with children, friendly with other dogs of all sizes, and loves to lean on adults while being petted.
Prince loves to ride in our SUV. We fold the rear seats down flat and have a lot of doggy cushions and stuffed toys on the flat deck created. Prince immediately lays down and naps. Occasionally when stopped in traffic he assumes the sitting position and becomes a tourist, looking out the back and side windows to see where we are.
Prince would be an ideal choice for a family with children old enough to know not to poke eyes etc. He would work well with homes or apartments with no fenced yard, as he has not problem doing his business on leash. Prince is very trusting and docile. When on leash he does not strain at the end of it, but waits to be led by the walker. He willingly heels if you shorten the leash.
Prince is a good eater. He accepted an abrupt switch of kibble brands when we fostered him, and when we introduced yogurt atop the new kibble, he scarfed that up quickly. We also embed vitamin tablets in a tablespoon of crunchy peanut butter which Prince quickly enjoyed, liking remaining peanut butter from my finger and the spoon.
Prince is very quiet. We have yet to hear him bark. He comes to you when he needs a walk, which is the only clue. HE DOESN'T JUST WANT TO BE PETTED!
Prince is sensitive to load noises. When being walked loud diesel vehicles or cars with loud mufflers will get his undivided attention. He will immediately lean on his walker and seek reassurance until the vehicle passes. He would probably have the same reaction with thunder and fireworks. Loud music in the car was not a problem and did not interrupt his napping.
We have no cats in our home now, so Prince's cat tolerance is unknown at this time.
In summary, Prince is a friendly loving and trusting smallish boy great with kids who loves to lean on you when being petted. This usually melts hearts in first encounters.
More to come!
